Dr. Pierre DePorre, DVM, Practice Owner
Beyond his work at the animal hospital, Dr. Pierre is a surgeon for the Mazunte Turtle Project, a dog spay/neuter project in Mexico which has helped decrease the population of stray dogs that eat the turtle eggs and hatchlings on the beaches where endangered sea turtles nest.
Additionally, as an avid bicyclist, Dr. Pierre annually rides in the 300-mile "Make a Wish" fundraising event for seriously ill children. His other interests include yoga and refurbishing bicycles. Dr. Pierre is married to Dr. Deborah DePorre.
Dr. Jules J. DePorre, DVM, Practice Owner
Dr. Jules DePorre is one of the founding owners of DePorre Veterinary Hospital. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and his DVM from Michigan State University. What he appreciates most about this animal hospital is the truly caring, dedicated, hard-working individuals who pull together as a team for the benefit of patients and their families.
At home, Dr. DePorre and his wife, Sharon, have four children: Jules M., an assistant federal prosecutor; Brian, a chemist and laboratory manager; Adrienne, MD, a pediatric hospitalist; and Daniel, MD, who is completing his residency at Henry Ford Hospital. He also has a dog, Benny. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, spending time at the family cottage in Northern Michigan, kayaking, hiking, gardening, and enjoying family time, especially with his six grandchildren.
Dr. Kristen Fox, DVM, Practice Owner
Dr. Fox received her Bachelor of Science in Zoology and her DVM from Michigan State University. She joined the DePorre team shortly after graduating in 2005. Her special interests include internal medicine, endocrine diseases, and dermatology. At DePorre, she appreciated the ability to practice high-quality medicine and be able to collaborate with a group that puts the focus on patient care and client concerns.
At home, Dr. Fox's family includes her husband, Matt, her sons, Walker and Holden, and her two dogs, Brutus the Cockapoo and Parker the Goldendoodle. In her spare time, she enjoys being at her family's cabin, reading, playing games, and watching movies and TV, including her favorite show, Murder, She Wrote.
Dr. Thomas DeHondt, DVM
Dr. DeHondt received two Bachelors of Science degrees during his academic career: one in zoology and environmental studies from Michigan State University, and the other in civil engineering from the University of Detroit Mercy. He then went on to earn his DVM from Michigan State University. Dr. DeHondt started at DePorre in 2015 and he takes pride in the constant drive to provide the highest possible level of medical care to each patient, as well as the teamwork displayed among all the staff in this common goal. His interests include all areas of the always evolving field of veterinary medicine, but he's always had a special interest in ophthalmology. In his job, he really enjoys working with both people and their pets to strengthen the bond they share.
Dr. DeHondt is married to his wife, Mia, and they have two daughters, Stella, and Sophie. Although they had to say goodbye to the other member of their family, Nika, a Siberian Huskie, she is remembered fondly. In his free time, he enjoys distance running, soccer, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Stephanie Goodman, DVM
Dr. Goodman graduated with her DVM from Michigan State University in 1998 and joined the DePorre team in 2018. At work, she appreciates the comradery of our veterinarians who operate as a "think tank," making them great to work with! She's also thankful for the chance to work with the vet techs and appreciates their extensive knowledge. All the staff has a positive upbeat attitude that makes her want to come to work every day.
Dr. Goodman is married to her husband, Jason, and they have two sons, Benjamin and Jacob, as well as one dog, Lola, and two cats, Miles and Joan. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering for the Beaumont parenting program, chasing two active kids, reading, and playing golf.
Dr. Corey Gut, DVM
Dr. Corey was born and raised in Birmingham, Michigan and brought her pets to DePorre throughout her childhood years. Her education includes a Bachelor of Science and a DVM from Michigan State University. She became a DePorre employee while in high school and after practicing further north for 11 years, she returned to DePorre in October of 2013 as an experienced veterinarian. She loves all areas of medicine but has a special interest in cardiology, ultrasonography, and soft tissue surgery.
Beyond her work in the hospital, Dr. Corey has published two children's books, Being Brave for Bailey and Staying Strong for Smokey, to help parents introduce the difficult subject of euthanasia and pet loss. Dr. Corey married her college sweetheart, Adam, in 2005, and they and their two daughters, Addison and Ashley, live together with their very special mutt, Vinnie. Dr. Corey enjoys kickboxing, yoga, and pilates, as well as spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. Molly Husman, DVM
Dr. Husman joined the DePorre team in 2016. She earned her DVM from Michigan State University after her undergraduate studies in business management and animal science. Dr. Husman loves being able to help people cultivate a stronger human-animal bond with their pets. She has a special interest in dentistry and surgery.
Dr. Husman is married to her husband, Brian, and they have two daughters. Her family includes two cats, and she is currently in negotiations for a new dog. Dr. Husman enjoys swimming, weightlifting, and reading in her spare time.
Dr. Alan Lewis, DVM
An Ohio native, Dr. Lewis came to Michigan after veterinary school to do a one-year internship at Michigan Veterinary Specialists. After completing his internship in 2001, he was happy to join the staff at DePorre Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Lewis was inspired to join the veterinary profession because of the opportunity to combine his interests in science and animals at a level to directly help people. He has a special interest in veterinary ophthalmology and enjoys the constant challenge in a rapidly advancing field. He finds it very rewarding to help people in his community.
Dr. Lewis is married to Carol, and together they have two sons, Oscar and Finn. They have a Brittany named Triple and a rescued cat named Pharaoh. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, sports, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Ilana Mark, DVM, CVA
Dr. Mark graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 and began practicing at DePorre Veterinary Hospital in 2015. She is our resident certified veterinary acupuncturist (CVA). Dr. Mark appreciates the family environment, sense of community among our team members, and the quality of medicine we provide to our patients. She and her family share their home with a menagerie of animals, including two miniature horses named Rosie and Maggie; a Warmblood gelding named Otto; a Bernese Mountain Dog named Lucy; a Dachshund named Jelly Bean; and nine chickens (six hens and three roosters).
Some of Dr. Mark’s hobbies include competitive horseback riding (hunter/jumper), traveling, fitness, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Rachel Packard, DVM
Dr. Packard joined DePorre Veterinary Hospital in January 2012. She graduated from Michigan State University Veterinary School in 2010 and her undergraduate studies included arts management and business marketing at Eastern Michigan University. In her veterinary career, her areas of interest include animal behavior and feline medicine. Dr. Packard obtained her Low Stress Handling Silver Level Certification in 2018. Working with people and animals to strengthen the human-animal bond is one of Dr. Packard’s favorite professional activities.
Dr. Packard shares her life with a black Labrador named Astaire, a Golden Retriever named Finn, and two cats named Raja and Frankie. In her free time, she enjoys tap dancing with Detroit Tap Repertory, practicing yoga, reading, and baking.
Dr. Heather Witherell-Mortlock, DVM
Dr. Witherell joined the DePorre team in 2003. She received her DVM from Michigan State University and her undergraduate degree in psychology and biomedical science from Western Michigan University.
She has two sons, Benjamin and Samuel, a step-daughter, Katie, and her husband, Todd as well as furry family members including Mabel, a Boston Terrier, and Emmy Otter, a Labrador. In her spare time, she enjoys being with family and friends, watching her kids play soccer, leading her son’s cub scout den, reading novels, playing board games, cross-stitching, and crafting.
Dr. Lauren Zeid, DVM
Dr. Zeid joined the DePorre team in 2017. She attended the University of Michigan for her Bachelor of Science degree, and then went on to Michigan State University for her DVM, which she received in 2012. At DePorre, Dr. Zeid deeply appreciates the ability to practice high-quality veterinary medicine with devoted staff and colleagues who give the practice a decidedly community feel.
At home, Dr. Zeid has a very handsome tuxedo cat named Moose and an Aussie mix named Sammie. Her family includes a younger brother and an older sister, and she is also a very proud aunt to her sister's baby! When she's not at the hospital, Dr. Zeid loves to travel and she's already been to 6 out of the 7 continents! She also loves the outdoors including skiing, hiking, paddle boarding, and canoeing. There's more! She's a fitness enthusiast and takes part in classes such as Orange Theory, CrossFit, spin, boot camp, kickboxing, and yoga. And when she's not doing all that, she enjoys relaxing and spending time with family and friends.
