However, to give your pet the best clean, it’s necessary to use anesthesia. We use the safest anesthesia protocols for your pet including pre-anesthetic blood work and extensive monitoring during the procedure. Additionally, we always perform digital dental X-rays to fully examine the teeth below the gumline. This helps us to assess the extent of damage from dental disease and determine whether extractions are necessary.
During a dog and cat teeth cleaning procedure, we perform:
- Ultrasonic scaling to remove tartar from every tooth
- Polishing of every tooth to prevent future tartar build-up
- A full oral examination including digital dental X-rays to assess teeth below the gumline
- Extractions of diseased or damaged teeth, if needed

There's a lot you can do for your pet’s oral health at home. Brushing their teeth daily is the single most effective way to prevent tartar build-up. However, brushing can be a challenge for busy people with uncooperative pets! It’s still worth a try, but if your pet simply doesn’t take to it, we will recommend other options. Dental care can involve any of the following including:

- Water additives
- Dental chew toys
- Dental diets
