Dr. Corey Gut

Veterinarian, Lead Surgeon

Badge Badge

Dr. Corey was born and raised in Birmingham, Michigan and brought her pets to DePorre throughout her childhood years.

She was admitted to vet school after only 3 years of undergraduate studies at Michigan State University. She stayed at MSU, completing her DVM degree in 2003, graduating with elite honors and awards in both internal medicine and soft tissue surgery.

She contemplated specializing in either cardiology or surgery but eventually elected general medicine because her greatest passion is and always has been working directly with families and their pets. She completed post-graduate courses in abdominal imaging/ultrasound, advanced thoracic imaging and echocardiography, and received multiple certifications in orthopedic, soft tissue surgery and dental/oral surgery which helped pave the pathway toward her current role as Lead Surgeon at DePorre Veterinary Hospital.

Beyond her work in the hospital, Dr. Corey has published two children's books, Being Brave for Bailey and Staying Strong for Smokey, to help parents introduce the difficult subject of euthanasia and pet loss. Her books are available for purchase at DePorre Veterinary Hospital and at beingbraveforbailey.com.

Dr. Corey dedicates some of her time off to performing surgeries and dental procedures at the Oakland County Animal Shelter and is passionate about animal rescue and animal advocacy.

She married her college sweetheart, Adam, in 2005, and they and their two daughters, Addison and Ashley, live together with their very special pups, a rescued Golden Retriever with a super goofy underbite and a Pug who is obsessed with food and finding patches of sunshine to sleep in.
